Mr FISHER - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow : -

1.   This matter has been carefully considered by successive Ministers. No evasion of the Tariff has apparently taken place.

2.   Parliament has specially provided that " Meat preserved by cold process " shall be free of duty. The meat referred to is so preserved and there is no legal power to charge duty.

3.   The opinion of the Attorney-General was sought in this matter, and the Minister has no power to order the collection of duty which is not legally due.
