Sir WILLIAM LYNE - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow : -

1.   Officers, 141 ; non-commissioned officers, 429 ; men, 2,386 ; total, 2,956.

2.   Officers,141 ; non-commissioned officers, 343 ; men, 1,730 ; total, 2,214. The reduction in number is due to recruiting having been temporarily suspended, pending the re-organization now being carried into effect. Pending the recommencement of recruiting, no reduction in the establishment in South Australia has been made, because the strength is below the average ratio of population.
