Mr HIGGINS (NORTHERN MELBOURNE, VICTORIA) asked the Acting Minister of Defence, upon notice -

(1)   Whether the reduction of the number of men in the Engineer Corps on Swan Island is rendered necessary by the scheme of retrenchment?

(2)   Whether the corps, in the opinion of the Government's advisers, is likely to be as efficient after the reduction us before ?

Sir WILLIAM LYNE - The answer to the honorable and learned member's questions is as follows 1 and 2. Yes.
