Sir PHILIP FYSH (TASMANIA, TASMANIA) (Ministerwithout portfolio) - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow : -

1.   Lady stamp sellers at Kalgoorlie and Boulder are paid at the rate of £70, and one at Coolgardie is paid £S0 per annum.

2.   - Lady telephone attendants at Exchanges mentioned are paid as follows : - Nine at £60, one at £65, ten at £70, six at £90, one at £100, and two at £110i

3.   The Postmaster-General is not aware of the ruling rate of wage for women on the Western Australian gold-fields, but the rates quoted are above the average paid for similar duties in the other States.

4.   As the positions are, as a rule, filled by girl. whose parents reside in the towns mentioned, the necessity for the payment of a gold-fields allowance is not apparent, but the matter will be brought under the notice of the Public Service Commissioner for consideration when general regulations ils to such allowances are being framed.
