Mr DEAKIN - I do not think the administration of that Act has occasioned the exclusion of a single white immigrant.


Mr Crouch - What about the Portuguese who wished to enter New South Wales?


Mr DEAKIN - The so-called Portuguese to whom the honorable and learned member refers, was a Cape Verde Islander, a coloured man who had nothing but his name to indicate that he had Portuguese blood in' his veins.
