   21 Treasury Laws Amendment (2018 Measures No. 5) Bill 2018

The order of the day having been read for the resumption of the debate on the question—That the bill be now read a second time—

Debate resumed by Dr Leigh who moved, as an amendment—That all the words after “That” be omitted with a view to substituting the following words:

“whilst not declining to give the bill a second reading, the House:

(1)    notes that the Coalition Government has had six Ministers responsible for charities over the last five years; and

(2)    expresses its disapproval of the appointment of prominent anti-charity advocate Gary Johns as chair of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission”.

Debate ensued.

Amendment negatived.

Question—That the bill be now read a second time—put and passed—bill read a second time.

Leave granted for third reading to be moved immediately.

On the motion of Mr Irons (Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister), the bill was read a third time.
