 14 HEALTH LEGISLATION AMENDMENT (MEDICARE) BILL 2003

Mr Abbott (Minister for Health and Ageing) presented a Bill for an Act to amend the law relating to medicare, and for related purposes.

Bill read a first time.

Mr Abbott moved—That the Bill be now read a second time.

Mr Abbott presented an explanatory memorandum to the Bill.

Debate ensued.

Ms Gillard moved, as an amendment—That all words after "That" be omitted with a view to substituting the following words: "the House condemns the Government for seeking to destroy Medicare and calls on the Government to withdraw the Bill and introduce provisions to increase the Medicare rebate by a further $5 for every bulk billed GP consultation across Australia".
