IRAQ: WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION—MINISTERIAL STATEMENT AND PAPERS—MOTION TO TAKE NOTE OF PAPERS

Mr Downer (Minister for Foreign Affairs), by leave, made a ministerial statement relating to Iraq and weapons of mass destruction and presented the following papers:

UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, to the President of the Security Council, Mr Stefan Tafrov.

United Nations Special Commission—Chronology of main events, December 1999.

Mr Downer moved—That the House take note of the papers.

Suspension of standing and sessional orders—Times for speeches

Mr Williams (Attorney-General), by leave, moved—That so much of the standing and sessional orders be suspended as would prevent Mr Crean (Leader of the Opposition) speaking for a period not exceeding 34 minutes, Mr Rudd for 20 minutes and all other Members to speak to the motion for 10 minutes each.

Question—put and passed.

Mr Crean addressed the House.

Debate adjourned (Mr Williams), and the resumption of the debate made an order of the day for a later hour this day.
