DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE—TOWNSVILLE TROUGH

The House was informed that Mr K. J. Thomson had proposed that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the House for discussion, namely, "The Government's failure to protect the Townsville Trough, located just 50 kilometres from the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, from oil exploration".

The proposed discussion having received the necessary support—

Mr K. J. Thomson addressed the House.
