DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE—PUBLIC SERVICE AND THE DEFENCE FORCES

The House was informed that Mr Rudd had proposed that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the House for discussion, namely, "The Government's systematic abuse of the public service and the defence forces for political and other purposes".

The proposed discussion having received the necessary support—

Mr Rudd addressed the House.

Discussion ensued.

Member ordered to withdraw

At 3.53 p.m. the Member for Denison (Mr Kerr) was ordered, under standing order 304A, to withdraw from the House for one hour for continuing to interject after being called to order by the Chair, and he accordingly withdrew from the Chamber.

Discussion continued.
