TAXATION LAWS AMENDMENT BILL (NO. 6) 2001

The order of the day having been read for the resumption of the debate on the question—That the Bill be now read a second time—

Debate resumed by Mr K. J. Thomson who moved, as an amendment—That all words after "That" be omitted with a view to substituting the following words:

"whilst not declining to give the bill a second reading, the House notes that this bill proposes amendments to the A New Tax System Act 1999and calls on the Government to take this opportunity to include further improvements in the legislation that would:

(1) remove the GST from the price of women's sanitary products;

(2) remove the GST from funeral expenses;

(3) remove the GST from fees paid by long-term caravan park and boarding house residents;

(4) compensate charities for the extra burden imposed by the GST; and

(5) simplify the GST for small businesses".

Debate continued.
