DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE—JOB SECURITY

The House was informed that Mr Crean (Deputy Leader of the Opposition) had proposed that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the House for discussion, namely, "The failure of the government to ensure the job security of thousands of Australian families, by introducing a new job destroying tax, doing nothing to stop the collapse of major corporations and having no strategy to keep Ansett in the air".

The proposed discussion having received the necessary support—

Mr Crean addressed the House.
