PRIVILEGE—ALLEGED UNAUTHORISED DISCLOSURE OF COMMITTEE REPORT

Mr Pyne (Chair—Joint Committee of Electoral Matters) referred to the matter of privilege raised on Monday, 18 June 2001, in relation to the alleged unauthorised disclosure of the details of the committee's report entitled "User friendly, not abuser friendly: Report of the inquiry into the integrity of the electoral roll".

Mr Pyne reported that the committee had considered the matter in accordance with the Speaker's request and had resolved that it was inconclusive whether an unauthorised disclosure had occurred, was unable to ascertain the source of the alleged disclosure and the alleged disclosure did not constitute a substantial interference to its work or the committee system. The committee recommended that the matter not be pursued further.
