8          Selection of Bills—Standing Committee—Report no. 3 of 2023

The Chair of the Selection of Bills Committee (Senator Urquhart) tabled the following report:

SELECTION OF BILLS COMMITTEE

REPORT NO. 3 of 2023

1.     The committee met in private session on Wednesday, 22 March 2023 at 7.25 pm.

2.    The committee recommends that—

(a)                   the provisions of the Education Legislation Amendment (Startup Year and Other Measures) Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 28 April 2023;

(b)                  the Improving Access to Medicinal Cannabis Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 1 September 2023;

(c)                   the provisions of the Inspector-General of Aged Care Bill 2023 and the Inspector-General of Aged Care (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 28 April 2023;

(d)                  the provisions of the Jobs and Skills Australia Amendment Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 24 April 2023; and

(e)                   the provisions of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (Data Streamlining) Amendment Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 14 April 2023.

3.    The committee recommends that Health Insurance Amendment (Prescribed Dental Patients and Other Measures) Bill 2023 not be referred to a committee.

4.    The committee deferred consideration of the following bills to its next meeting:

Senator Urquhart moved—That the report be adopted.

The Assistant Minister for Education (Senator Chisholm) moved the following amendment:

At the end of the motion, add “and, in respect of the Financial Accountability Regime Bill 2023, Financial Accountability Regime (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2023, Treasury Laws Amendment (Financial Services Compensation Scheme of Last Resort) Bill 2023, Financial Services Compensation Scheme of Last Resort Levy Bill 2023, and Financial Services Compensation Scheme of Last Resort Levy (Collection) Bill 2023, the bills not be referred to a committee”.
