Senator Hanson-Young: To move on the next day of sitting—That the following bill be introduced: A Bill for an Act to amend the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 , and for related purposes. Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Save the Koala) Bill 2021 . ( general business notice of motion no. 956 )
Senators Sterle and Ciccone: To move on the next day of sitting—That—
(a) there be laid on the table by the Minister representing the Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management, by no later than 9.30 am on Thursday, 4 February 2021, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission perishable agricultural goods inquiry final report; and
(b) if the Senate is not sitting when the documents are ready for presentation, the documents are to be presented to the President under standing order 166. ( general business notice of motion no. 957 )
Senator Rice: To move on the next day of sitting—That the Senate—
(a) notes that:
(i) electric vehicles offer significant benefits, including reduced pollution from road transport,
(ii) uptake of electric vehicles in Australia lags behind many comparable countries,
(iii) the Commonwealth Government has failed to deliver a national strategy on electric vehicles, despite promising one in February 2019, and
(iv) in the vacuum created by the Commonwealth Government’s failure to act, state governments have imposed unnecessary taxes, creating a major road block to uptake of electric vehicles; and
(b) calls on the Commonwealth Government to act rapidly to develop a national strategy to support the uptake of electric vehicles. ( general business notice of motion no. 958 )
Senator Rice: To move on the next day of sitting—That the Senate—
(a) notes that:
(i) 15 January 2021 marks a year since the release of the Australian National Audit Office’s report on the award of funding under the Community Sport Infrastructure Program,
(ii) evidence to the Senate Select Committee on Administration of Sports Grants shows that the Prime Minister and his office were intimately involved in and aware of decision making under the program, and
(iii) many deserving clubs, including in regional Australia, missed out on new community sport facilities, because they were not in marginal or targeted electorates; and
(b) calls on the Government to apologise to the clubs that missed out, and provide the funding they missed out on. ( general business notice of motion no. 959 )
Senator Siewert: To move on the next day of sitting—That the Senate—
(a) notes that when the Coronavirus Supplement was first introduced at the rate of $550 a fortnight it had a transformational impact on people’s lives and lifted millions out of poverty;
(b) acknowledges that the Government’s continued cuts to the Coronavirus Supplement are driving poverty rates up in Australia to above pre-pandemic levels;
(c) recognises that the withdrawal of income support measures is premature and will set back our economic recovery and further entrench poverty;
(d) further acknowledges that the old rate of the Jobseeker Payment meant that people were left with as little as $7 a day after paying rent; and
(e) calls on the Government to announce a permanent and ongoing increase to the Jobseeker Payment and Youth Allowance before the Coronavirus Supplement ends on 31 March 2021 to ensure all Australians can live in dignity and not in poverty. ( general business notice of motion no. 960 )
