PETITIONS

The following 7 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators

indicated, were received:

Senators Brownhill and Childs, from 117 and 107 petitioners,

respectively, requesting that the Senate convey to the French

Parliament the Australian community's outrage at the French

Government's decision to resume nuclear testing in the South Pacific.

Senators Denman and Reynolds, from 67 and 71 petitioners,

respectively, requesting that the Senate disallow the Public Service

Act regulation removing the right of appeal against higher duties of

12 months or less duration.

Senator Bell, from 103 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to protect all Australia's remaining natural heritage forests

and implement sustainable plantation forestry practices.

Senator Bourne, from 74 petitioners requesting that the Senate call on

the Government to take action against the continued denial of human

rights to the people of East Timor.

Senator Brownhill, from 172 petitioners requesting that the Senate

support UN resolutions calling for a nuclear non-proliferation treaty

and support the cessation of uranium exports to France.
