The following 7 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators

indicated, were received:

Senator Bell, from 40 petitioners requesting that the Senate urge the

Federal Government to establish a national coastal agency with

national powers to stop the destruction of the Australian coastline.

Senator Bell, from 70 petitioners requesting that the independent rate

age for Austudy be decreased to 21 years, that full Austudy payments

be raised to the level of unemployment benefits and that the taxable

income threshold be increased to $8 000.

Senator Bourne, from 123 petitioners requesting that the Senate call

on the Government to take action against the continued denial of human

rights to the people of East Timor.

Senator Brownhill, from 39 petitioners opposing any changes to the

Australian flag, supporting the constitutional monarchy and opposing

any moves to turn Australia into a republic.

Senator Harradine, from 972 petitioners requesting that the Senate

oppose legislation that would jeopardise the freedoms and rights of

schools and religious institutions or force them to compromise their

distinctive moral values.

Senator Herron, from 83 petitioners requesting that the Senate call on

the Minister for Human Services and Health to withdraw her endorsement

of the sex guide published in the December 1994 issue of Cleo


Senator Calvert, from 172 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to improve television reception in the Derwent Valley,
