CANBERRA--TOWN PLANNING

Senator Reid, pursuant to notice of motion not objected to as a formal

motion, moved--That the Senate--

(a) notes that the Australian Capital Territory Legislative

Assembly's Standing Committee on Planning and Environment has

raised concerns regarding the proposed construction by the

Commonwealth at the York Park North, Hinkler Building and

Woolshed sites in Barton, Australian Capital Territory;

(b) is concerned that the Territory committee found that nowhere in

the documentation is there any evidence that Canberra's town

planning objectives have been considered by the initiating

agency or any other Commonwealth body;

(c) deplores the fact that nowhere is there a reference to the

impact of the proposals on the Australian Capital Territory

Plan; and

(d) wishes to be assured that all requirements relating to the "two

envelope tendering' reform and industry impact are met by the

Commonwealth in relation to these developments if they are to

proceed.

Question put and passed.
