TAXATION LAWS AMENDMENT (BUDGET MEASURES) BILL 1995

The following message from the House of Representatives was reported.

Message No. 584

MR PRESIDENT,

The House of Representatives returns to the Senate the Bill intituled

"A Bill for an Act to amend the law relating to taxation", and

acquaints the Senate that the House of Representatives has agreed to

amendments Nos. 1, 2 and 3 made by the Senate, and has disagreed to

amendments Nos. 4, 5 and 6 set forth in the annexed schedule, and for

the reasons shown therein.

The House of Representatives desires the reconsideration by the Senate

of the Bill in respect of the amendments disagreed to.

Ordered, on the motion of the Minister for Industry, Science and

Technology (Senator Cook), that the message be considered in committee

of the whole immediately.

The Senate resolved itself into committee for the consideration of the

message.

SCHEDULE OF THE AMENDMENTS MADE BY THE SENATE

TO WHICH THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HAS DISAGREED

No. 4--Schedule 10, page 15, item 1, proposed definition of

provisional tax uplift factor, paragraph (a), omit "8%",

substitute "6%".

No. 5--Schedule 10, page 15, after item 1, insert the following

items:

"1A. Subsection 221AZK(2):

Table 1: omit "$8,000' (wherever occurring), substitute

"$10,000'.

"1B. Application

The amendment made by item 1A of this Schedule applies in

relation to liability to pay instalments payable for the 1995-96

year of income and for all later years of income.".

No. 6--Schedule 10, page 15, item 2, omit "made by this Schedule",

substitute "made by item 1 of this Schedule".

Senator Cook moved--That the committee does not insist upon its

amendments nos 4, 5 and 6 disagreed to by the House of Representatives.

Debate ensued.

Question put and passed.

Resolution to be reported.

The Deputy President (Senator Reid) resumed the Chair and the Temporary

Chairman of Committees (Senator McGauran) reported that the committee

had considered message no. 584 from the House of Representatives in

relation to the Taxation Laws Amendment (Budget Measures) Bill 1995 and

had resolved not to insist upon its amendments nos 4, 5 and 6 disagreed

to by the House of Representatives.

On the motion of Senator Cook the report from the committee was adopted.
