DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The Deputy President (Senator Reid) informed the Senate that Senator

Troeth had proposed that the following matter of public importance be

submitted to the Senate for discussion:

Labor's neglect of Australian families, demonstrated by falling living

standards, high unemployment, family breakdown and associated social

costs.

The proposal was supported by 4 Senators.

Discussion ensued.
