The Deputy President (Senator Crichton-Browne) informed the Senate that

2 Senators had each submitted letters in accordance with standing order

75, Senator Coulter proposing a motion to debate a matter of urgency and

Senator Knowles proposing a matter of public importance.

Senator Coulter had agreed to withdraw his proposal and, accordingly,

the Deputy President informed the Senate that Senator Knowles had

proposed that the following matter of public importance be submitted to

the Senate for discussion:

Recognising on International Women's Day the achievements and

contributions of women within our community and the progress achieved

by women in the quest for true equality.

The proposal was supported by 4 Senators and the matter was discussed.
