ANZAC DAY BILL 1994

A message from the House of Representatives was reported transmitting

for the concurrence of the Senate the following bill:

Message no. 454, dated 7 February 1995--A Bill for an Act to declare

Anzac Day, on 25 April, to be the national day of commemoration to

recognise and commemorate the contribution of all those who have

served Australia (including those who died) in time of war and in

war-like conflicts.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Primary Industries and

Energy (Senator Sherry) moved--That this bill may proceed without

formalities and be now read a first time.

Question put and passed.

Bill read a first time.

Senator Sherry moved--That this bill be now read a second time.

Pursuant to the order of the Senate of 29 November 1994, the debate was

adjourned and the resumption of the debate made an order of the day for

the first day of the winter sittings 1995.
