UNRESOLVED WHISTLEBLOWER CASES--SELECT COMMITTEE--VARIATION OF
APPOINTMENT

Motion determined as not formal: Senator Murphy requested that General

Business notice of motion no. 1278 standing in his name for this day,

relating to the variation of the resolution of appointment of the Select

Committee on Unresolved Whistleblower Cases, be taken as formal.

An objection was raised and the motion was not proceeded with as a

formal motion.

Suspension of standing orders: Senator Murphy, at the request of the

Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator Gareth Evans) and

pursuant to contingent notice, moved--That so much of the standing

orders be suspended as would prevent a Minister moving a motion to

provide for the consideration of a matter, namely a motion to give

precedence to General Business notice of motion no. 1278 standing in the

name of Senator Murphy for this day, relating to the variation of the

resolution of appointment of the Select Committee on Unresolved

Whistleblower Cases.

Senator Murphy moved--That the terms of reference of the Select

Committee on Unresolved Whistleblower Cases be amended as follows:

(1) Paragraph (1), omit "The unresolved whistleblower cases in

Queensland referred to at page 5 of the report of the Select

Committee on Public Interest Whistleblowing, with particular

regard to:", and paragraphs (a), (b) and (c), substitute "The

unresolved whistleblower cases in Queensland, New South Wales,

Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia, with particular

regard to the Lindeberg and Harris cases in Queensland, the

Johnson case in Tasmania, the King and Wild cases in South

Australia, the Cook and Katsoulas cases in New South Wales and

as yet unnamed cases in Western Australia.".

(2) Paragraph (2), omit "seven", substitute "eight".

(3) Subparagraph (2)(a), omit "two", substitute "three".

(4) Paragraph (3), omit the paragraph, substitute "That the

committee proceed to the dispatch of business only following a

meeting of all duly nominated and appointed members of the

committee.".

(5) Paragraph (5), omit "four", substitute "five".

(6) Add at end the following new paragraph:

"(14) That the committee take account of all relevant advice on

its capacity to deal with the matters referred to it.".
