PETITIONS

The following 6 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators

indicated, were received:

Senator Lees, from 124 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to protect old-growth and wilderness forests by implementing a

comprehensive plantation strategy.

Senator Sandy Macdonald, from 110 petitioners requesting that the

Senate support the extension of the permitted service area for 2UNE-FM

so that it may broadcast to all students and staff of the University

of New England and their families residing in the Armidale district.

Senator Tierney, from 252 petitioners requesting that the Senate

legislate to ban the importation and use of the drug RU486 in

Australia.

Senator Bell, from 135 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to withdraw registration for use of atrazine and all other

S-triazines and ensure that the National Registration Authority gives

priority to reviewing these chemicals.

Senator Kernot, from 1 380 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to re-institute the policy of discrimination in favour of the

recycled paper products industry.

Senator Sandy Macdonald, from 278 petitioners requesting that the

Senate support the provision of SBS television to the University of

New England and the New England region.

The following 4 petitions, not in conformity with the standing orders,

were presented by the Senators indicated, by leave, and received:

Senator Panizza, 2 petitions similar in wording from 37 and 24

petitioners from Western Australia opposing the Human Rights (Sexual

Conduct) Bill 1994.

Senator Bell, from 1 457 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to protect old-growth and wilderness forests by implementing a

comprehensive plantation strategy.

Senator Bell, from 10 192 petitioners requesting an immediate and

permanent moratorium on the logging of all native old growth,

wilderness and other high conservation value forests in Australia.
