PETITIONS

The following 6 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators

indicated, were received:

Senators Coulter and Christopher Evans, from 450 and 196 petitioners,

respectively, requesting that the Senate take action to protect

old-growth and wilderness forests by implementing a comprehensive

plantation strategy.

Senator Coulter, from 35 petitioners requesting that the Senate

support Commonwealth threatened species legislation which uses the

full powers given to the Commonwealth by the Australian Constitution

and which provides the necessary financial resources to halt the loss

of species.

Senator Christopher Evans, from 18 212 petitioners requesting that the

Senate take action to protect high conservation value and old-growth

forests in the south west of Western Australia.

Senator Neal, from 353 petitioners requesting that the Senate

legislate to ban the importation and use of the drug RU486 in

Australia.

Senator Jones, from 562 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to ban military aid to Indonesia, not pursue foreign policy

with Indonesia at the expense of human rights and reverse the decision

which recognises Indonesian rule over East Timor.
