PETITIONS

The following 8 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators

indicated, were received:

Senator Baume, from 538 petitioners requesting that the Senate

legislate to ban the importation and use of the drug RU486 in

Australia.

Senator Bell, from 259 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to protect old-growth and wilderness forests by implementing a

comprehensive plantation strategy.

Senator Jones, from 17 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to ensure that all merchandise associated with the Sydney 2000

Olympics be manufactured solely in Australia from Australian

materials.

Senator Kernot, from 180 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to provide financial aid for clearing mines from countries such

as Cambodia.

Senator Minchin, from 9 864 petitioners requesting that the Senate

amend the Childcare Rebate Act and the Social Security (Home Child

Care and Partner Allowances) Legislation Amendment Act to ensure that

all parents with dependent children are treated equally with maximum

freedom of choice.

Senator Spindler, from 680 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to reform the Family Law Act and the Child Support Scheme.

Senator Chamarette, from 569 petitioners requesting that the Senate

take action to support the production of 100 per cent recycled tissue

paper products through reduced taxation or equivalent measures.

Senator Jones, from 539 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to re-establish interpreting services for Australian-Italian

pensioners in the Wide Bay area.
