NOTICES

Senator Panizza, at the request of Senator Reid: To move on the next day

of sitting--That the Joint Committee on the National Capital and

External Territories be authorised to hold a public hearing during the

sitting of the Senate on Friday, 9 December 1994 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,

for the purpose of taking evidence for the committee's inquiry into

draft amendment number 12 to the National Capital Plan.

Senator Herron: To move on the next day of sitting--That the Senate

congratulates Dr John Quiggin, senior fellow at the Centre for Economic

Policy Research at the Australian National University, on his article in

the Canberra Times of 28 November 1994 headed "Policy assumptions

causing health woes' in which he states that "all of this suggests that

the problem is not one of mismanagement, but of a policy process based

on fundamentally misconceived assumptions'.

Senator Margetts: To move on the next day of sitting--That the Senate--

(a) notes that:

(i) the annual report of the Australian Defence Industries

(ADI) was tabled in the Senate on 16 November 1994, one

day after the estimates hearing of the Foreign Affairs,

Defence and Trade Legislation Committee, and

(ii) subsequent attempts to have that annual report examined

by that committee were thwarted by the Minister for

Defence (Senator Ray); and

(b) calls on the Government to arrange for officers from ADI to be

present at the estimates hearing of the Foreign Affairs, Defence

and Trade Legislation Committee on 29 November 1994 to allow

examinationof the ADI annual report by the committee.
