Senator Newman, pursuant to notice of motion not objected to as a formal

motion, moved--That the Senate--

(a) notes:

(i) that the United Nations military chief, Major General

Guy Tousignant, has stated that the Australian medical

support team in Rwanda has been "a total success in all

areas' and that "the work of the contingent has been

brilliant', and

(ii) the hope of General Tousignant that the work and

achievements of the Australian medical support team, in

very difficult circumstances, are adequately recognised

in Australian history; and

(b) congratulates the Australian medical support team for the

professional and meritorious manner in which it has performed

its duties and served our country.
