DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The Deputy President (Senator Crichton-Browne) informed the Senate that

Senator Alston had proposed that the following matter of public

importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

The failure of the Keating Government to match its politically

inspired rhetoric in relation to the arts with concrete action that

will enable the arts community to give full expression to its

abundant creative skills and talents.

The proposal was supported by 4 Senators and the matter was discussed.
