PETITIONS

The following 6 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators

indicated, were received:

Senator Coulter, from 383 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to protect old-growth and wilderness forests by implementing a

comprehensive plantation strategy.

Senator Newman, from 24 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to provide funding for the transmitters necessary to ensure

that all Tasmanians have access to the ABC and SBS.

Senator Newman, from 15 petitioners requesting that the Senate review

the guidelines for young homeless rate benefits and show a greater

commitment to programs which prevent family breakdown.

Senator O'Chee, from 61 petitioners requesting that the UN Convention

on Desertification not be signed without first receiving the scrutiny

and approval of the Senate.

Senator McGauran, from 114 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to facilitate the placement of cellular telephone transmitters

in the Eden-Monaro electorate and areas of far east Gippsland.

Senator Woodley, from 79 petitioners requesting that the Senate

urgently ensure that Cross Runway 14.32 at Brisbane Airport is

extended as originally planned, in the interests of eliminating

aircraft noise and ensuring safety.
