AUSTRALIAN NUCLEAR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ORGANISATION
REGULATIONS--MOTION FOR DISALLOWANCE

Senator Margetts, pursuant to notice, moved--That the Australian Nuclear

Science and Technology Organisation Regulations, as contained in

Statutory Rules 1994 No. 259 and made under the Australian Nuclear

Science and Technology Organisation Act 1987, be disallowed.

Debate ensued.

On the motion of the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator

Hill) the debate was adjourned.

On the motion of the Minister for Trade (Senator McMullan) resumption of

the debate was made an order of the day for 7 November 1994.

Senator Hill, by leave, moved--That the Australian Nuclear Science and

Technology Organisation Regulations, as contained in Statutory Rules

1994 No. 259 and made under the Australian Nuclear Science and

Technology Organisation Act 1987 be referred to the Legal and

Constitutional Legislation Committee to advise the Senate on or before 7

November 1994 whether such regulations could be drafted in terms which

would limit the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation's

treatment of nuclear waste at St Marys and the transport of such waste

to Woomera.
