DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The Deputy President (Senator Crichton-Browne) informed the Senate that

Senator Patterson had proposed that the following matter of public

importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

The Government's continued failure to understand the needs of older

Australians in a rapidly ageing population and its failure to

implement appropriate policy responses, specifically to address the

residential, home and community care and respite care needs of people

suffering with dementia and their carers.

The proposal was supported by 4 Senators and the matter was discussed.
