SOCIAL SECURITY LEGISLATION AMENDMENT BILL 1994

Order of the day read for the consideration of message no. 250 from the

House of Representatives in committee of the whole (see entry no. 56, 24

March 1994).

In the committee

Message read.

The Minister for Small Business, Customs and Construction (Senator

Schacht) moved--That the committee--

(a) does not insist upon the Senate's amendments nos 3 and 8 to

which the House of Representatives has disagreed;

(b) does not insist upon the Senate's amendments nos 2 and 4 to

which the House of Representatives has disagreed and agrees to

the amendments made by the House in place thereof; and

(c) agrees to the amendments made by the House of Representativesto

clause 8 relevant to the amendments of the Senate to that

clause.

Debate ensued.

Senator Patterson moved the following amendment:

Omit paragraph (a), substitute:

"(a) insists upon the Senate's amendment no. 8 to which the House

of Representatives has disagreed; and

(aa) does not insist upon the Senate's amendment no. 3 to which

the House of Representatives has disagreed; and"

Debate ensued.

Question--That the amendment be agreed to--put and passed.

Resolution to be reported.

The Acting Deputy President (Senator Childs) resumed the Chair and the

Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator Colston) reported that the

committee had considered message no. 250 from the House of

Representatives relating to the Social Security Legislation Amendment

Bill 1994 and had resolved that the committee:

(a) insists upon the Senate's amendment no. 8 to which the House of

Representatives has disagreed;

(b) does not insist upon the Senate's amendment no. 3 to which the

House of Representatives has disagreed;

(c) does not insist upon the Senate's amendments nos 2 and 4 to

which the House of Representatives has disagreed and agrees to

the amendments made by the House in place thereof; and

(d) agrees to the amendments made by the House of Representativesto

clause 8 relevant to the amendments of the Senate to that

clause.

On the motion of the Minister for Family Services (Senator Crowley) the

report from the committee was adopted.
