BOUNTY (FUEL ETHANOL) BILL 1994

Order of the day read for the adjourned debate on the motion of the

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Primary Industries and

Energy (Senator Sherry)--That this bill be now read a second time.

bill.

On the motion of Senator Coulter the following amendment was debated and

agreed to:

Clause 5, page 2, subclause (1), line 11, definition of "biomass

feedstocks", omit "or animals".

Bill, as amended, further debated.

On the motion of Senator Coulter the following amendment was debated and

agreed to:

Clause 12, page 6, paragraph (4)(h), line 14, after "hydrocarbons",

insert ", including benzene and other aromatic hydrocarbons,".

Senator Coulter moved the following amendment:

Clause 12, page 6, paragraph (4)(i), lines 16 to 22, omit the paragraph,

substitute the following paragraph:

(i) "the applicant's strategy for reducing the level of greenhouse

gas emissions relating to the sourcing, production, distribution

and use of fuel ethanol below that relating to the sourcing,

production, distribution and use of the same quantity of

petroleum-based fuel into the market in which the applicant

proposes to sell the fuel ethanol;".

Debate ensued.

Chair and the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator Colston)

reported progress.
