DEATH OF FORMER SENATOR THE HONOURABLE JOHN EDWARD MARRIOTT CBE

The President informed the Senate of the death, on 13 April 1994, of

former Senator the Honourable John Edward Marriott CBE, Assistant

Minister to the Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister for

Health from 1971 to 1972 and Senator for the State of Tasmania from 1953

to 1975.

The Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator Gareth Evans), by

leave, moved--That the Senate expresses its deep regret at the death, on

Wednesday, 13 April 1994, of the Honourable John Edward Marriott CBE,

Senator for the State of Tasmania from 1953 to 1975, Assistant Minister

to the Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister for Health

from 1971 to 1972, places on record its appreciation of his long and

meritoriouspublic service and tenders its profound sympathy to his

family in their bereavement.

The motion was supported and all Senators present stood in silence--
