INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS AMENDMENT BILL 1994

Order of the day read for the adjourned debate on the motion of the

Minister for Veterans' Affairs (Senator Faulkner)--That this bill be now

read a second time--and on the amendment moved by Senator Chapman--",

but the Senate:

(a) deplores the Government's incompetent management of the

industrial relations portfolio, incompetence which has again

forced it to bring in hasty amendments to the Industrial

Relations Act; and

(b) condemns the submissive attitude the Government continues to

demonstrate toward the ACTU, reflected in:

(i) the Commission's unduly expanded responsibility, and

(ii) the disproportionately large number of senior

Commission personnel who have been drawn from the trade

union movement.

Debate resumed.

Question--That the amendment be agreed to--put and negatived.

Main question put and passed.

The Senate resolved itself into committee for the consideration of the

bill.

accordingly.

On the motion of the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy (Senator

Collins) the report from the committee was adopted and the bill read a

third time.
