VACANCY IN THE REPRESENTATION OF TASMANIA--CHOICE OF ERIC ABETZ

The Deputy President (Senator Crichton-Browne) informed the Senate that

the President had received, through the Office of His Excellency the

Governor-General, from the Governor of the State of Tasmania, a copy of

the certificate of the choice by the Parliament of Tasmania of Eric

Abetz to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator Brian

Roper Archer.

The Deputy President tabled the copy of the certificate as follows:

Your Excellency,

I have the honour to advise you that pursuant to Sections 15 and 21 of

the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution, a Joint Meeting of the

Legislative Council and the House of Assembly has been held to fill

the vacancy in the representation of the State of Tasmania in the

Senate due to the resignation of Mr Brian Roper Archer.

Following receipt of advice from the Speaker of the House of Assembly

who was elected the Presiding Officer of the Joint Meeting, I certify

that Mr Eric Abetz has been chosen to hold the place in the Senate

rendered vacant through the said resignation.
