Senator Jones, pursuant to notice of motion not objected to as a formal

motion, moved--That the Senate--

(a) condemns the military forces responsible for the mortar attack

on the Markale market place in Sarajevo which caused the deaths

of 68 and the wounding of more than 200 people;

(b) calls upon Bosnian Serbs, the Bosnian Croats, and the Bosnian

Government to immediately resume the United Nations-brokered

talks on a possible truce;

(c) urges the United Nations (UN) to press ahead with peace

negotiations set down for Geneva in the week beginning 6

February 1994;

(d) calls upon all Governments and the international community to

place pressure on the Bosnian Serbs to have the sieges of

Sarajevo and other Muslim cities lifted without delay; and

(e) reaffirms its support for the UN and European peace effort and

the continuation of humanitarian aid for all those affected by

this appalling conflict.
