PROCEDURE--STANDING COMMITTEE--REFERENCE

Senator Bourne amended her notice of motion by leave and, pursuant to

notice of motion not objected to as a formal motion, moved--That the

following matter be referred to the Procedure Committee for inquiry and

report by 2 March 1994:

Ways in which the Senate committee system could be made more

responsive to the composition of the Senate, with particular reference

to:

(a) the number of committees required;

(b) the responsibilities, functions and subject area coverage of

committees;

(c) the structure of committees, including party representation and

numbers of members; and

(d) arrangements for chairing committees, including the proposals

put forward in General Business notice of motion no. 23 standing

in the name of the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate

(Senator Hill).
