PETITIONS

The following 11 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators

indicated, were received:

Senators Crowley and Herron, from 12 and 58 petitioners, respectively,

requesting that the Senate reject proposals to link accreditation to

childcare assistance.

Senator Bell, from 115 petitioners requesting that the Senate

introduce legislation requiring the National Registration Authority to

provide all available information on registered chemicals.

Senator Coulter, from 587 petitioners requesting that the Senate

support Commonwealth threatened species legislation which uses the

full powers given to the Commonwealth by the Australian Constitution

and which provides the necessary financial resources to halt the loss

of species.

Senator Knowles, from 9 petitioners requesting that the Senate oppose

any plan by the Prime Minister to purchase any new VIP aircraft.

Senator Knowles, from 10 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to abandon proposals to treat unrealised capital gains and

losses on listed securities as income under the Social Security and

Veterans' Entitlements Acts.

Senator MacGibbon, from 36 070 petitioners requesting that the Senate

ensure that the Australian national flag is not changed or replaced

without first being voted upon and approved by the people of Australia

in a national poll.

Senator McGauran, from 6 petitioners requesting that the Senate oppose

any change in the design or colour of the Australian national flag.

Senator Tierney, from 77 petitioners requesting that the Senate take

action to ensure the continued availability of high octane petrol for

Australian motorists.

Senator Tierney, from 98 petitioners requesting that the Senate oppose

the increases in petrol excise resulting from the Budget.

Senator Crowley, from 77 petitioners requesting that federal subsidies

not be withdrawn or withheld from any child-care centre where

Christmas background music is played.
