PETITIONS

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received and read:

Senator Bjelke-Petersen, from 14 citizens of Australia praying that the Government withdraw the Budget amendments to sales tax.

Senator Macklin, from 17 citizens of Australia praying that the Government continue to support and encourage the National Women's Advisory Council.

Senator Gietzelt, from 42 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate note the discrepancy between the recent work value increase awarded to Parliamentarians and that awarded to Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization scientists.

Senator Macklin, from 285 citizens of Australia praying that the Government remove sales tax from solar water heaters and provide income tax deductibility for costs of installation.

Senator Button, from 94 citizens of Australia praying that the Government provide funds for the preservation of South West Tasmania but not for development works such as dams or roads.

Senator Giles, from 104 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate reject any proposal to abolish the Community Youth Support Scheme.

Senator Macklin, from 1165 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate take action to halt the mining, milling and export of Australian uranium.

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senator Kilgariff, from 34 citizens of Australia, similar in wording to the petition presented by Senator Button.

Senator Grimes, from 8 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate re-introduce a system of health care based on access by medical need and ability to pay.
