The Minister for Finance (Senator Dame Margaret Guilfoyle) moved--That this Bill be now read a second time.

Senator Walsh moved an amendment, viz: At end of motion, add "", but the Senate notes with alarm the increasing commitment of the Government to monetarist policies, which policies have, wherever fully implemented, resulted in low economic growth, high unemployment, soaring interest rates, increased inequality and widespread poverty, and therefore calls on the Government to abandon these damaging and divisive policies''.

Debate ensued.

Question--That the words proposed to be added be added--put and negatived.

Question--That this Bill be now read a second time--put and passed.

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of the Bill.
