DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The President informed the Senate that Senator Harradine had proposed that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, viz: ""The failure of the Commonwealth Government to maintain economic justice for Australian families.''.

And at least four Senators having risen in support of the proposed discussion--

The President called upon Senator Harradine to speak.

Discussion ensued.

Extension of Time: Senator Robertson, by leave, moved--That the Minister for Social Security (Senator Chaney) be granted an extension of time of five minutes.

Question--put and passed.

Discussion continued.

Senator Chaney moved--That the business of the day be called on.
