DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The President informed the Senate that Senator Walsh had proposed that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, viz: ""The need for the Commonwealth Government to initiate moves for a constitutional guarantee of a one-vote one-value principle, particularly in view of the proposed new electoral redistribution in Western Australia.''.

And at least four Senators having risen in support of the proposed discussion--

The President called upon Senator Walsh to speak.

Discussion ensued.

The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs (Senator Baume) moved--That the business of the day be called on.
