PETITIONS

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received and read:

Senator Bjelke-Petersen, from 12 citizens of Australia praying that the National Women's Advisory Council be abolished to ensure that Parliamentary debate on women's issues is free from intervention by an unrepresentative advisory council.

Senator Gietzelt, from 50 citizens of Australia praying that the Government maintain the size of and increase funding for the ABC Melbourne Showband.

Senators Colston and McLaren, from 42 and 13 citizens of Australia, respectively, praying that the Senate reject any proposal to sell Trans Australia Airlines.

Senator Bonner, from 60 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate legislate to prevent unauthorized scrutiny of patients' medical records.

Senator Grimes, from 15423 citizens of Australia praying that the Minister for Social Security ensure continued financial support for the educational programme for infants and children at the Preston Institute of Technology, Bundoora, Victoria.

Senator McLaren, from 52 citizens of Australia praying that the Government urgently review railway freight increases imposed in South Australia by Australian National Railways, ensure a reduction of freight and parcel rates, and encourage greater public utilisation of rail services.

The following petition, presented by the Senator indicated, was received:

Senator Sibraa, from 37 citizens of Australia, similar in wording to the petitions presented by Senators Colston and McLaren, relating to Trans Australia Airlines.

The following petition, lodged with the Clerk by the Senator indicated, was received:

Senator Hamer, from 53 citizens of Australia praying that the Government maintain the size of and increase funding for the ABC Melbourne Showband.
