ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES

Senator Harradine, pursuant to notice, moved--That the Senate--

(a) is of the opinion that Australian families, particularly one-income families, have been financially disadvantaged by the failure of the Government to either increase or index family allowance payments;

(b) notes the Prime Minister's election-night statement that certain things undertaken in the last five years had ""not pleased all people'', that his Government had "heard that message' and that !we will use all our energies and all our efforts to advance the cause of all Australians and all Australian families'; and accordingly (c) impresses on the Prime Minister and the Government the urgent need to take long-overdue action to assist Australian families, particularly one-income families and families with young children.
