AIRCRAFT STAGING THROUGH AUSTRALIA--MINISTERIAL STATEMENT--PAPER

The Minister for National Development and Energy (Senator Carrick), by leave, made a statement relating to the terms and conditions which will govern United States Air Force B-52 staging flights through Australia and, by Command of His Excellency the Governor-General, laid upon the Table the following Paper:

B-52 Aircraft Staging through Australia--Exchange of Notes constituting an Agreement between the Government of Australia and the Government of the United States of America on the staging of B-52 and associated KC-135 tanker aircraft through Australia for surveillance in the Indian Ocean area and for navigation training purposes, done in Canberra on 11 March 1981.

Senator Carrick, by leave, moved--That the Senate take note of the Statement.

Debate ensued.

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs (Senator Messner) moved--That this debate be now adjourned.

Leave refused: Senator Chipp sought leave to make a statement.

Objection being raised, leave not granted.
