6           Selection of Bills—Standing Committee—Report no. 7 of 2021

The Chair of the Selection of Bills Committee (Senator Dean Smith) tabled the following report:

SELECTION OF BILLS COMMITTEE

REPORT NO. 7 of 2021

1.     The committee met in private session on Wednesday, 23 June 2021 at 7.14 pm.

2.    The committee recommends that—

(a)                  the Coronavirus Economic Response Package Amendment (Ending Jobkeeper Profiteering) Bill 2021 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 20 August 2021;

(b)                  the Courts and Tribunals Legislation Amendment (2021 Measures No. 1) Bill 2021 be referred immediately to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 13 August 2021;

(c)                  contingent upon introduction in the House of Representatives, the provisions of the Financial Sector Reform (Hayne Royal Commission Response—Better Advice) Bill 2021 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 28 July 2021;

(d)                 the provisions of the Mitochondrial Donation Law Reform (Maeve’s Law) Bill 2021 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 18 August 2021;

(e)                  contingent upon introduction in the House of Representatives, the provisions of the Social Services Legislation Amendment (Consistent Waiting Periods for New Migrants) Bill 2021 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 14 September 2021; and

(f)                   contingent upon introduction in the Senate, the Sex Discrimination and Fair Work (Respect at Work) Amendment Bill 2021 be referred for inquiry and report by 6 August 2021 but was unable to reach agreement on a committee .

3.    The committee recommends that the following bills not be referred to committees:

Senator Gallagher moved the following amendment:

At the end of the motion, add “and, in respect of the Sex Discrimination and Fair Work (Respect at Work) Amendment Bill 2021, contingent upon introduction in the Senate, the bill be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 6 August 2021”.
