24    Committees—Matters Referred to Committees in Previous Parliament

Senator Kroger, at the request of the chairs of the respective committees, tabled the following reports:

Economics References Committee—

The Economics References Committee met on 14 November 2013 and considered references not disposed of at the end of the 43rd Parliament. The committee resolved to recommend to the Senate that the following inquiry of the 43rd Parliament be re-adopted:

Inquiry into the performance of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission with a reporting date of 30 May 2014.

The committee also resolved to recommend to the Senate that the committee have the power to consider and use the records of the Economics References Committee appointed in the previous parliament.

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee—

The Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee met on Thursday, 14 November 2013 and considered references not disposed of at the end of the 43rd Parliament. The committee resolved to recommend to the Senate that the following inquiries of the 43rd Parliament be readopted:

Inquiry into the ownership arrangements of grain handling, with a reporting date of Wednesday, 11 December 2013;

Inquiry into the effect on Australian ginger growers of importing fresh ginger from Fiji; the effect on Australian pineapple growers of importing fresh pineapple from Malaysia; the proposed importation of potatoes from New Zealand, with a reporting date of Friday, 28 February 2014; and

Inquiry into the review of the citrus industry in Australia, with a reporting date of Friday, 28 March 2014.

The committee resolved to recommend that the following inquiry not be re-adopted:

Inquiry into beef imports into Australia.

The committee also resolved to recommend to the Senate that, in respect of these matters, the committee have power to consider and use the records of the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee appointed in the previous parliament.
