Senator RUSTON (South AustraliaAssistant Minister for International Development and the Pacific) (16:23): I seek leave to make a short statement?

The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute.

Senator RUSTON: The government continues to carefully consider the best way forward to further strengthen and improve the national integrity framework. It is important that changes in this area improve upon the current system rather than adding complexity and confusion. In contrast, the opposition has made a policy announcement about a federal anticorruption commission with absolutely no detail of how it will work. Calling by motion for a commitment to the establishment of an organisation without any detail whatsoever as to the jurisdictional powers or legal and administrative operation of that organisation is not a sound policy approach.

Question agreed to.
